"Marked" by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast

The challenge a adult will face in reading a book like this is simply getting past the teenager/vampires stuff to ascertain if the story carries any meat to it, or if it’s merely the infantile fluff expected.  ‘Marked’ takes on the ‘appearance’ of typical infantile fluff; yet when one braves its pages to step inside its story, it is anything else but.  Consider: a normal teenager girl faces a life change.  Her parents, rather than offering support, show disdain.  The girl abandons her home for a place where other teenagers, like herself, face the same change.  Yet they are not ‘like her’, as the girl shows herself blessed by God with abilities beyond anyone’s expectations.  She rises to the challenge of these responsibilities and though still just a kid who still makes dumb mistakes, leads her peers into righting wrongs.

This is ‘Marked’ – absent the vampire vernacular.

Zoey Redbird is the girl, the daughter every parent should desire as their own.  Though different from other fledgings at this vampire school, she never runs from that destiny or gloats over her superiority.  Instead, she relies heavily upon her faith to lead her; and this, wondering what choice she will make at every corner faced, is what makes this book a true page turner.
